No. 1 Kendall Gill

Kendall Gill spent four years being a part of the Illinois basketball program. During those four years, he had a lot of individual and team success. He put up good numbers at a high level for three of those years and made a couple of NCAA tournament runs.

During Gill’s Career, he averaged 12 points, 3 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game. He shot 50-percent from the field and 37-percent from three-point range. He also had a true shooting percentage of 57-percent. His career averages are low, but that is mostly because of his freshman season when he averaged 3.7 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.9 assists.

The best season for Gill was his junior year. That season he put up 20 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. The only problem with that season is that he shot poorly. Gill shot 50-percent from the field which is good, but he only shot 34-percent from the three-point arc.

Gill accomplished a couple of things during his time at Illinois. He made the All-Big Ten team once and was named as a consensus All-American once. Gill was a part of four NCAA tournament teams with his deepest run coming in the 1988-1989 season. Gill also ranks No. 13 in all-time Illini points and No. 3 in all-time total steals.

I think the biggest knock on Gill’s Illini career is that he only made it past the second round once. Even with that being a knock on his collegiate career, I still think he is the best shooting guard in Illinois history.
