8. Jamari Gassett – Top 5

The need for playmakers has been stated a few times so far during this article. Illinois is always looking for players who can burn and make plays for the program. I believe that is what they see with Jamari Gassett.

Gassett is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound athlete from Jefferson High School and resides in Tampa, Florida. He isn’t rated or ranked by 247Sports, but Rivals has him rated as a three-star recruit. His scholarship offers, and the teams that are coming after him, makes me think this kid is a top 1200 player.

Despite the recruiting attention, Gassett wanted to cut his list down. He ended up doing just that on May 25 when he narrowed his choices to just five teams. The top five for Gassett consists of Boston College, Rutgers, Toledo, Buffalo and Illinois.

I am curious to see who comes out of this recruitment with a commitment. I firmly believe Illinois is the leader in the clubhouse right now. We have a great recruiting connection down in Florida with Coach Keynodo Hudson. The fact there isn’t a Florida school recruiting Gassett helps too. I would say this recruitment is Illinois’ to lose right now.  Don’t be shocked if we get a commitment out of this kid sooner than later.
