The Illinois football team added to the family on Saturday night in a big way.

I have mentioned in various articles that without a good offensive line, the team can’t win games consistently. Illinois was able to get back to a bowl game last season and a big reason was due to their talented offensive line. They ranked as one of the best offensive lines in the nation. Illinois wants to continue building that offensive line for the future, and that is what they did with the addition of Brody Wisecarver.

Wisecarver took to Twitter on Saturday night to announce that he has ended his recruitment and is committed to the University of Illinois. In the post, he mentions that he was blessed with size, strength and loving parents. He also thanks coaches and his teammates. Overall, this is a huge commitment for the Illini.

According to 247Sports, Wisecarver is a 6-foot-4, 317-pound offensive tackle from DeSmet High School and resides in St. Louis, Missouri. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 347 player in the class of 2021 and the No. 4 player in the state of Missouri.

There were a number of teams vying for Wisecarver’s commitment. Programs like Louisville, Kentucky, Michigan State and Iowa State, among others, had all come in with scholarship offers. But Illinois ended up winning out.

For the Illini, the offensive line is starting to fill out depth-wise. Adding a top 400 player like Wisecarver goes a long way in developing this grouping. There will still be a lot of unknowns moving into 2021 with every offensive line position except for left guard.

Honestly, looking at the depth chart, Wisecarver will have every chance in the world to start day one for the Illini. There is so much unproven talent. I believe he could come in and see double-digit starts as a freshman.

Next. Illini building a great relationship with Austin Barber. dark

I love this addition for the Illini. We needed more help on the offensive line entering the 2021 campaign. Wisecarver is going to provide a lot of help up front for this program.
