Illinois Basketball: Top 3 Illini point guards of all-time
By Jalen Wilson
1. Dee Brown
Before I did my research, I never realized how good Dee Brown was while a part of the Illinois basketball program. His numbers don’t jump off the stat sheet, but he makes up for his stats with his accomplishments.
For his career, Brown averaged 13.2 points, 4.9 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. He also shot 42-percent from the field, 36-percent from three-point range and 52-percent effective field goal rating. His best season was his junior year in which Brown averaged 13.2 points per game, 4.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He also shot 49 -percent from the field and 43-percent from the three-point arc during that season.
Brown is one of the most accomplished Illinois basketball players of all-time. He was a two-time All-American and a two-time All-Big Ten player. I also need to mention that he won the 2004-05 Big Ten Player of the Year award, 2004-05 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award, and the Bob Cousy Award during his time in Champaign. Brown has also reached the big dance every year of his Illini career, as he even made it to a national championship during the 2004-05 campaign.
Brown’s all-time Illini record rankings are impressive too. He has scored the most all-time postseason points for an Illini, ranks fourth all-time in total points, ranks third in all-time Illini assists and is second in totals steals.
The impact Brown has had on the Illini program is incredible. He made it to four NCAA tournaments, led the Illini to a national title game, ranks top 10 in a lot of Illinois all-time records and has a lot of individual accomplishments. That is why he is the best point guard in the history of the program.
