2. Kiwane Garris

Kiwane Garris may be one of the most overlooked Illinois basketball players of all-time. He was a point guard who could score while still being a good passer. Garris doesn’t have the best individual stats, but his all-time rankings in the Illini record books make up for it.

Garris’ career stats consisted of 16.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. He had shooting percentages of 41-percent from the field and 36-percent from the three-point range. He also had a 47-percent effective field goal rating.

The best year for Garris was his senior campaign. As a senior, he averaged 19.4 points, 5.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He also shot 40-percent from the field and 38-percent from three-point range that season.

Garris’ only individual accomplishment is being named as a two-time All-Big Ten player. He is in the top 10 in a lot of all-time Fighting Illini records. He is second all-time in Illini points and seventh in total steals. He is also sixth is in assists average per game and fifth in total assists.

The biggest knock on Garris is probably the fact that he only made the NCAA tournament three times. Yes that is a lot, but he never made it past the second round of the postseason. He always showed up though, as he averaged around 18 points per game and 6 assists in the NCAA tournament. I still think he’s the second-best Illini point guard of all-time.
