3. Brandon Peters

Brandon Peters was, arguably, the biggest reason for Illinois’ success during the 2019 campaign. He showed flashes of why he was a four-star recruit coming out of high school back in 2016.

Peters had a big year in 2019. He thre for 1,884 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He also managed a 55-percent completion rate. Peters showed that he has sneaky mobility as well. He rushed for 213 yards in year one with the Illini. Without a doubt, he was one of the most important players on this Illinois football team last year.

There were multiple cames where Peters put up good numbers last year. Against Michigan State, he passed for 369 yards and 3 touchdowns on 22 completions. He also passed for 273 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception in the bowl game against Cal.

Peters did struggle at times last season. He failed to pick up blitzes which led to fumbles, and he made some unforced errors. I expect him to have an even better 2020 season than last year, though. He has more weapons like Luke Ford, Imatorbhebhe, Ricky Smalling, Daniel Barker and Donny Navarro. So, I expect Peters to pass for 2,500 yards and 23 touchdowns

All in all, I think it’s going to be more than just these three players who will have a breakout season. But I think these three players will have the biggest breakout season in 2020.
