The Illinois football team has a bunch of talented players on the roster, and I believe a few players will have a breakout season.

The current roster is probably the most talented roster the Illini has had in a while. Many players had a breakout season last year.  I believe the reason for this was that Lovie and the Illini coaching staff recruited good high school players and transfers.

Illinois has done that again for the class of 2020. While the class may not be ranked higher than the 2019 class, Illinois still managed to get talented high school players and players in the transfer portal.

I want to mention that this list may have players that had a good season in 2019 and some players that were injured in 2019. This list also may have players that had opportunities last season but may not have the same opportunities this upcoming season.

Illinois has done well with transfer players that haven’t gotten opportunities to prove themselves.  Some transfer players that had breakout seasons last year were Brandon Peters, Josh Imatorbhebhe and Donny Navarro.

Players like Casey Washington and Devon Witherspoon showed glimpses of what they could become during their freshman campaigns. Transfers like Christian Bell and Derrick Smith will have opportunities next season as well. These players I named could be on this list.

Now, I know that the 2020-21 season is in jeopardy of not happening due to COVID-19. But I still want to name players that could have a breakout year if the season does happen.

Here are the three Illini players who could have a breakout 2020 season.
