1. It’s only May 11

If we were halfway through the 2020 campaign and the Illini were sitting with the class of 2021 they have right now, I would say it is time to worry. But it is only May 11, folks.

Yes, I realize that we only have two commitments right now. Quarterback Samari Collier and defensive back Prince Green will help this team tremendously. I am glad we could bring even more depth to the quarterback position. Snagging a passer from Texas is exciting. Green will bring stability to the defensive back role. We needed more talent in the secondary.

There are still a ton of recruits Illinois is eyeing, though. It isn’t time to start worrying about if we can land a full class or not. We made Kendrick Blackshire’s top six list. I realize he is a long shot, but we are right there for his commitment.

Demetrius Cannon would be a great addition to the team. He is a wide receiver the Illini have been pursuing for a while. This kid is a top 500 recruit. I think we are close to landing him. You can look at defensive end Zeiqui Lawton. He has the Orange and Blue in his top five. He is a top 500 player as well.

So, while some people are worried about the future of this program and what the class of 2021 is going to look like, I think it is time to calm down a little bit. I could go on and on about other recruits who the Illini could land. The class of 2021 will be just fine.
