The Illinois football team landed a huge addition to their offensive line on Thursday afternoon.

The Illini offensive line will have solid depth for the 2020-21 season. On Thursday, they added to that depth with offensive lineman Brevyn Jones. He is the second player to transfer to Illinois this week.

Jones took to Twitter to make the announcement that he has decided to commit to the Orange and Blue. This was a big commit because, after next season, we have three starting offensive linemen graduating. Jones will help fill the massive void left by graduation.

Jones is a 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive tackle. Coming out of Huffman High School in Alabama, he was rated as a three-star recruit who was the No. 1633 ranked player in the class of 2019 and the No. 140 offensive tackle in the nation.

There were a lot of teams vying for Jones’ commitment out of high school, but Mississippi State caught his eye. In early June 2019, he ended his recruitment and committed to the Bulldogs.

During his freshman year, Jones didn’t get much playing time as he only played in one game. So, there is nothing to go off of that can prove he was a great player at Mississipi State. But, based on his high school tape, Jones posses good footwork and good speed for a blocker. He still has four years of eligibility remaining since he only played one game last season.

The commitment by Jones will also quiet some people who have been worried about the football staff’s recruiting lately. Jones was a huge addition and will be a great depth piece moving forward.
