The Illinois basketball team needs to continue building for the future, and the transfer market is a way to fill out the roster.

Heading into the future, Illinois has a lot of scholarships open. As of right now, for next year, we have three scholarships available. That is saying Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn keep their name in the NBA Draft pool.

You can even look further ahead than next season. Let’s go to the following campaign. Illinois would then have a total of five scholarships available to fill. That means we can land a couple of players this year in the transfer market who would be eligible to play a couple of years from now. That would help fill those voids.

The transfer market is dwindling, though. There were so many players I thought would be great additions, but they have committed to other teams. But there are still a few big-time transfers out there who could help this program win some games in the future.

Illinois’ name has been mentioned with just about every transfer so far. With that said, there is only a handful who would be the best option for the Illini moving forward.

Here are the top transfer targets the Illini are pursuing 4.0.
