1. Fred Scott

A couple of new names have popped onto the radar for the Illinois basketball team this offseason. There has been a wide net cast by the Illini, and one of the names that has come back is Fred Scott.

Scott’s career has been interesting, to say the least. He started his high school career at Oak Hill Academy before finishing up at Simeon High School in Chicago, Illinois. He then had some recruiting attention and landed with DePaul to start his college career.

With the Blue Demons, Scott only played in four games and took a redshirt during the 2015-16 campaign. After his first year with DePaul, he decided to transfer out of the program and landed with Rider. He had to sit out the following season but was sensational in the last two years.

During his first year with Rider, Scott averaged 12.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. His sophomore season was solid as well averaging 12.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Scott also had a good season last year. He averaged 12.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Scott is now looking for a new home as a graduate transfer. He can play immediately, which is a bonus for the Illini. He also announced a couple of days ago that he is down to only six teams vying for his commitment. The six teams to make the list include Boston College, San Diego, Arkansas, Illinois State, San Francisco and Illinois.

I love our chances to land Scott. This kid finished his high school career in Chicago. He needs a landing spot that has a need for some experienced guard play. This seems like a good fit.
