Tevian Jones went through struggles with the Illinois basketball team during the 2019-20  season.

Here is the 2019-20 season wrap-up for Tevian Jones.

Expectations

During Jones’ freshman year, he had stats that consisted of 3.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. He shot 40-percent from the field and 29-percent from three-point range while shooting 3.2 shots per game. Jones didn’t get much playing time as he averaged 9 minutes per game off the bench. But at times he showed flashes of what he could become if given the opportunity.

For Jones’ sophomore season, I predicted he would average 7.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 44-percent from the field and 34-percent from the three-point arc. I predicted this because I thought he was going to average around 17 minutes per game and even start a couple of times.

Reality

The 2019-20 season didn’t go as I predicted. Before the season started, Jones was suspended for violation of team academic policies. This put him in the dog house and hurt his play on the court.

Jones’ 2019-20 season averages were 0.9 points and 0.7 rebounds per game. He shot 16-percent from the field and 18-percent from three-point range while attempting 1.4 shots per game. Jones never recovered from the suspension as he only played 14 games and averaged 4.8 minutes per game. When on the court, he rushed a lot of his shots on offense and seemed lost on defense at times.

Future

Jones won’t be returning to the Illinois basketball program next season as he entered the transfer portal. I respect his decision to transfer. But after his college career, I don’t know what to expect from him.
