The Illinois football team needs to build its program around the class of 2021.

We didn’t need too many players for the class that just came in. Illinois had a lot of talent coming back from the 2019 campaign, so there weren’t too many scholarships available. While that is great news for the upcoming season, it also means the class of 2021 is going to need to be big.

The Illini are losing a lot of talent after the 2020 season. All positions are going to be important as far as building depth and talent. But I want to focus on wide receiver right now. That is an area this coaching staff needs to address.

After the upcoming season, Illinois will be losing Trevon Sidney, Josh Imatorbhebhe and Ricky Smalling. That is a huge blow to the wide receiver corps. So, we are going to need to fill those holes in via the class of 2021.

There are a handful of talented pass catchers that I have in mind. Some of these players might be a struggle to get because of all the teams who are vying for their commitment. But the Illinois coaching staff is going to have to work to make this class special.

Here are the top five wide receiver targets for the Illini class of 2021.
