Illinois Basketball: Illini MVP in the win against Nebraska
By Jalen Wilson
Many players had a good night as the Illinois basketball team beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 71-59.
Illinois played well on Monday. At points of the game, we did struggle to put the ball in the basket, though. There were some struggles on the defensive side of the court too. But there were many players that had an impressive game for the Illini. That is why there are co-MVPs for the victory over Nebraska.
The co-MVPs are Kofi Cockburn and Ayo Dosunmu. They both had good performances on Monday.
Ayo had 18 points, 2 assist and 2 rebounds. He was Illinois’ most consistent player on offense in the first half. He shot 9-of-16 from the field en route to the 18-point performance. Ayo also had a good game on defense with two steals, despite struggling with transition defense at times.
Kofi had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Nebraska struggled with Kofi defensively, as he just bullied the smaller Cornhuskers defenders. He also had one block and did a good job affecting Nebraska’s shots at the rim.
Other options for MVP of this game were Andres Feliz and Alan Griffin. Feliz had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assist. Griffin had 13 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist. I gave this award to Ayo and Kofi because I felt they were the most consistent players Monday night.
This Illinois basketball team improves to 18-9 overall and 10-6 in the Big Ten. The Illini are now on a two-game winning streak. They are set to face off against Northwestern in Evanston on Thursday night.
