Despite the Illinois basketball team falling to Maryland, there were a few Illini players who played well.

Illinois started out hot against the Terrapins as they once led by 14 points in the first half. Things changed quickly in the second half, though. The Orange and Blue couldn’t get anything to fall.

At the start of the second half, Maryland went on an 11-0 run. The Illini offense just fizzled out and Maryland took advantage. Many Illinois players didn’t have a good outing versus Maryland, but there was one player that impressed me.

That player was Ayo Dosunmu. Ayo was one of the only Illinois players that had a good game Friday night.

Ayo wasn’t really consistent shooting the basketball, but he did have 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. He didn’t shoot well, though. Ayo was 5-of-17 from the field and 1-of-6 from three-point range. He did do a good job of getting to the free throw line as he shot 5-of-7 from the charity stripe.

Ayo’s defense was also solid. He had one block and did a good job of trying to contain Maryland guard, Darryl Morsell.

The only other player who could have been MVP of the game was Andres Feliz. Feliz had 12 points and 7 rebounds. Many players were just ineffective and inconsistent as that was a big reason why Illinois lost.

After this loss, the Illinois basketball team falls to 16-7 overall and 8-4 in Big Ten play. Illinois will look to bounce back Tuesday as they face off against the Michigan State Spartans.
