The Illinois football team continued to target talented recruits who would help the program in the future on Thursday afternoon.

I love what Illinois has coming back in 2020 at the wide receiver position. We probably have the most talent out wide that we have had in a long time. But Lovie Smith and the Illini coaching staff is going to need to load up because we will be losing a lot of the talent over the next couple of years. That is why getting someone like Phaizon Wilson to come to Champaign would be huge.

Wilson is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receiver from Lancaster High School and resides in Lancaster, Texas. He isn’t rated or ranked because he is a member of the class of 2022, but there is no doubt in my mind he is going to be rated highly.

As of this moment, Wilson has roughly nine scholarship offers. In addition to the Illini offer, big programs like Florida, Arkansas and Colorado have all come in with offers as well. With power-five conference programs already offering Wilson, I would imagine he is going to eventually check-in around the top 300.

There isn’t a lot of Wilson considering he is a recruit from the class of 2022, but the one thing that does stand out to me is his size. This kid is 6-foot-4, 200-pounds. That size is like Randy Moss. Wilson is built well, and that alone usually translates into being a solid college player.

This is a great offer by the Illinois football program. Getting in early on Wilson will only increase our chances of landing him. Hopefully, over the next couple of years, we can draw mutual interest.
