The Illinois football team started heavily targeting a big-time playmaking wide receiver on Wednesday night.

I love what the Illini have coming back at wide receiver this upcoming season, but we are going to lose a lot after the 2020 campaign. Lovie Smith realizes this and will replenish the talent that will be departing. That is why offering Prince Green a scholarship is a big deal.

Green is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound wide receiver from Griffin High School and resides in Griffin, Georgia. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 958 player in the class of 2021 and the No. 149 wide receiver in the nation. He is also the No. 70 player in the state of Georgia.

The offers are already starting to come in for Green. Illinois is probably the biggest at this point, but he also has an offer from teams like Kentucky and Minnesota. There is no doubt in my mind that more offers are to come shortly, though.

Honestly, I am not sure why Green isn’t ranked higher than No. 958. I love his size for the wide receiver role. I wouldn’t be shocked if he checks in at 6-foot-3 when he enters the college ranks. Having a body that big out catching passes would benefit just about every team in the county.

I also like the fact that Green has played both sides of the ball. Having the knowledge both defense and offense will help him in identifying if a defensive back is going to go one direction, or if there are techniques he can use to be a more effective wide receiver.

As I said, Green is going to get more scholarship offers in the very near future. He just finished up his junior season, so I assume the spring and summer will be huge for him. Hopefully, Illinois can make an impact on him.
