The development of the defensive line for the Illinois football team has been a fascinating sight.

I have enjoyed watching the Illini defensive linemen develop over the last few years. There are some great players in the program right now who continue to develop every season. A player Illinois could add to this mix to help the team in the near future is Joshua Robinson.

Robinson is a 6-foot-4, 225-pound weak-side defensive end from Douglas County High School and resides in Douglasville, Georgia. He isn’t rated or ranked by 247Sports, but that is just because the recruiting rankings haven’t been fully updated. This kid is going to be solidly rated, though.

The big-time offers Robinson already has is impressive. In addition to the recent offer by the Illini, he also has offers from teams like Notre Dame, Florida and Arizona, just to name a few. I would imagine, based on his current offers, that Robinson is going to be a high three-star who is somewhere around No. 400 in the class of 2021.

There are so many things that stick out when I watch Robinson play football. His size is always a great feature to him, but he doesn’t rely just on his great size. I think his speed is probably his best attribute. He is able to get to the ball carrier quicker than they are expecting him to. That is extremely dangerous for a defensive end.

I also love Robinson’s football IQ. This kid doesn’t just bite on the run-pass option. He stays home and keeps contain. That is something a lot of defensive ends fail to do. His football intelligence is probably going to go under the radar during his recruitment.

I love this offer by the Illini. We always need more defensive end help. Having someone with the great instincts and intelligence that Robinson has would help this team in the near future.
