The Illinois football team grew the family on Sunday morning with a commitment that flew under the radar.

Tip Reiman took to Twitter to announce that he has committed to the Illini. Reiman is a 6-foot-5, 225-pound tight end from O’Gorman High School and resides in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is rated by Rivals as a two-star recruit and they have him at a 5.4 ranking in the class of 2020.

Illinois was able to snag Reiman on his official visit. He was in Champaign this weekend checking out the facilities and meeting with the coaching staff. It looks like the pitch by the Illini was good enough for Reiman to end his recruitment. He also had an official visit to South Dakota State planned next weekend.

The Writing Illini had a chance to pick Reiman’s brain about why he chose Illinois. Here is what he had to say.

“The coaches, players I spent time with and overall atmosphere was incredible. All of these opportunities for awesome growth are present at Illinois. Everything combined fit so well, there was no reason not to commit. Absolutely phenomenal and I am extremely excited to work my tail off for this program.”

Reiman is clearly excited to join the program, and Illinois fans should be excited to have the kid. He is a player who I believe will provide solid depth at tight end.

Don’t be thrown off by the two-star rating. I would imagine a lot of football scouts aren’t heading up to South Dakota anytime soon. So, their two-star rating might be a little off. I know one thing; I love the size Reiman brings to the Illini.

Having a player out there catching the football who is 6-foot-5 will be huge for the Illini quarterbacks. I think Reiman is going to come in and redshirt year one. He would then be a backup to Luke Ford after that. I think there is a chance Reiman could eventually be starting for the Illini down the road, though.

I love this pickup for the Orange and Blue. Build that tight end position. Adding to the family is never a bad thing.
