Illinois Basketball: Illini MVP of the game against Michigan (part 2)
By Jalen Wilson
The Illinois basketball team squeezed out the win against the Michigan Wolverines 64-62 in a hard-fought game on Saturday.
Multiple players had an off game against the Wolverines, though. Illinois had their struggles on offense and defense, but they found a way to win. Illini players had a hard time getting in the flow of the game due to getting into foul trouble early on. The big reason why the Orange and Blue was able to pull out a win today was because of Ayo Dosunmu.
Ayo, without question, is the MVP for Illinois in the win over Michigan.
This was a huge game for Ayo. He had his best game of the season against Michigan. Ayo had a career-high 27 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. He also shot a remarkable 61-percent from the field and 66-percent from three-point range.
Ayo also made the most important bucket of the game for the Illini. He made a two-point field goal with 00.5 seconds left to put Illinois up 64-62. This would end up being the game-winning bucket.
Illinois needed this game from Ayo. Trent Frazier, Kofi Cockburn and Giorgi Bezhanishvili all were in foul trouble for most of the game. Ayo was one of the few players who had a good game for the Illini.
This win was huge for Illinois as it will help them move up in the rankings. We Improve to 15-5 overall and 7-2 in Big Ten play. Illinois will look to improve their record as they play the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Thursday.
