No. 1 Guard – Demetri McCamey

Not everyone on the All-Decade team played completely in the 2010s. Demetri McCamey makes the All-Decade team as the starting No. 1 guard for the Orange and Blue.

McCamey played about a season and a half in the 2010s. He is arguably one of the most underrated players in the history of the Illinois program. His abilities on the court were sensational as he averaged almost double the number of assists as any other Illini player this decade.

In the two seasons McCamey finished in the 2010s, he was able to help Illinois to one NCAA tournament. That season they advanced to the second round only to fall to No. 1 Kansas. It was a solid season that would hopefully launch the Illini into another golden age of basketball.

McCamey would go on to average 14.85 points, 6.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.25 steals per game this decade. While there were times he would bump heads with Coach Bruce Weber, the time McCamey spent with the program was successful. He easily goes down as one of the best to ever do it at the No. 1 guard spot.

After his time at Illinois, McCamey would go on to dabble in the G-League and has spent time playing professionally overseas. I enjoyed watching this kid play, and he will always be one of the best in my books.
