The southeast was a focus for the Illinois football recruiting train over the last week.

The only states we have had any recruiting momentum in around the southeast are Florida and somewhat Georgia. But getting a good recruiting foothold in a state like North Carolina would be good for the program. Someone like Bryson Nesbit would help kickoff that recruiting pipeline.

Nesbit is a 6-foot-6, 220-pound tight end from South Mecklenburg High School and resides in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 476 player in the class of 2021 and the No. 19 tight end in the nation. He is also the No. 27 player in the state of North Carolina.

The rankings say this kid is good, but the scholarship offers also speak volumes. In addition to the most recent offer by the Illini, Nesbit has offers from teams like LSU, Georgia and Florida. This kid is going to be really good and teams are taking notice.

There is just so much to love about Nesbit’s game. The first thing people probably look at is his size. Being a 6-foot-6, 220-pound tight end is extremely intimidating at the high school level. That size will translate into the college game as well. He is going to be a beast for whoever snags him.

I also want to point out his ability to catch the ball. Nesbit doesn’t just rely on his amazing size. He can get the ball wherever the quarterback throws it. That makes him so valuable to college coaches moving forward.

It would be great to see Nesbit in an Illinois uniform. Having Luke Ford come back home and suit up for the Illini is huge. We could then have Nesbit follow him. Illinois could become a tight end factory. That would be a great thing for the program.

dark. Next. Jaydon Collins has the frame to be great at the next level

I am not going to hold my breath with this recruitment. There are so many teams from the south after Nesbit. I would be surprised if he gives the Illini a look during the recruiting process.
