Illinois basketball big man Kofi Cockburn has added to his young but impressive accomplishment list on Monday.

The Big Ten Conference put out their Big Ten Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors on Monday afternoon. In true Kofi fashion, he came away with both awards from this past week. That is an incredible feat not many have accomplished in the past.

Usually, players that win these awards have one big game that is recognized. That wasn’t the case with Kofi, though. He averaged 17.7 points and 14.7 rebounds per game this past week. It wasn’t just from one outlier game, though. It was from a total of three games where he was the main attraction for fans of both teams.

Kofi started the week off with a win against Hawaii last Monday. The team won by 13 points, and Kofi finished the night with 15 points and 14 rebounds to go along with a couple of blocks. The following game was on Wednesday where the Illini dominated The Citadel. We won by 28 points, and Kofi went for 18 points and 17 rebounds.

The final game of the three-game stretch was on Saturday night. This Illinois basketball team dominated Hampton in a way that I have rarely seen this program win. We ended up being victorious by 49 points. In this game, Kofi ended up with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

It is incredible that we are only six games into the Kofi Experience. I don’t want this ride to end. I am strapped in and ready to end up where this ride takes us. This kid is something special. I have never seen anything like him playing for the Orange and Blue.

Next. 3 observations from the Illini win over Hampton. dark

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds for Kofi. I know people have disputed this, but I think the NBA is waiting at the end of this short rainbow. Hopefully, we can enjoy the Kofi Experience deep into the month of March.
