The Illinois football team might be receiving some good news here in the near future.

Illinois has been recruiting a variety of players over the last month. Some of these players have been uncommitted recruits, but there is a handful who were committed to other programs at the time. One of those players, Tre’Von Riggins, is now looking for a new home.

On Saturday night, Riggins announced on Twitter that he has decided to decommit from the University of Miami. Here is a full readout of the posted tweet.

"“Miami Hurricane Family I would like to thank all of the coaches at University of Miami for giving me my first offer which would allow me to continue to play football. After speaking with coaches, family, and taking time to think bout it myself, I am now Decommitting from the University of Miami. My recruitment is now open.”"

Riggins is now an available recruit who is going to have even more recruiting attention than before. This kid is highly rated. He is a 6-foot-1.5, 265-pound strong-side defensive end from Lakewood High School in Saint Petersburg, Florida. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 640 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 57 defensive tackle in the nation. He is also the No. 90 player in the state of Florida.

Yes, Riggins is listed as a defensive end in the recruiting rankings, but teams are looking at him as a three-technique defensive tackle. One of those teams is Illinois. The Illini offered this kid back on October 3. He then took an official visit to Illinois on October 18. I believe that was his only official visit. He has now reopened his recruitment. All signs point to this being good for the Orange and Blue.

Illinois is doing to need some defensive tackle help in the near future. We are losing Jamal Milan, Kenyon Jackson and Tymir Oliver after this season. These three had a great run with the program. Players like Calvin Avery are starting to get older too. That means having someone like Riggins come in would help this team tremendously.

I am excited to see what happens with this recruitment. I think the Illini are in the lead here. 247Sports has Illinois as the 80-percent landing spot for Riggins too. This would be a great addition to the team.
