With the winning and team chemistry on display for the entire nation to see, the Illinois football team is drawing interest from recruits all across the country. A player who could help the defensive line tremendously in the future is Tre’von Riggins.

Riggins is a 6-foot-1.5, 265-pound strong-side defensive end from Lakewood High School in Saint Petersburg, Florida. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 639 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 57 defensive tackle in the nation. He is also the No. 91 player in the state of Florida.

Yes, Riggins is listed as a defensive end, but it looks like teams are eyeing him more as a defensive tackle at the next level. In fact, back in early October, the Writing Illini had a chance to pick Riggins’ brain about the conversation he had with the Illinois coaching staff. They are talking about him coming in and lining up as a three-technique defensive tackle.

The main problem right now is the fact Riggins is still committed to play for the Miami Hurricanes. This commitment happened a long time ago, though. Miami had a different coaching staff when Riggins commitment back in January 2018. Just purely judging by his social media accounts, I would say Riggins is feeling Illinois right now. He did take an official visit to Champaign back on October 19 as well.

The recruitment of Riggins is another one I believe Illinois is leading. I think we can flip this kid. My hope is that we can have him sign during the early signing period in December. That would be optimal for the Orange and Blue.
