The Illinois football team needs to put a win on the board in their first conference game of the season against Nebraska.

Winning this game would be huge. A way to win this game is to get everyone back onto the field. Health has been a major issue for this Illini team. But we have some players back, so this could be a big game for the program. Beating Nebraska would be a signature win for Lovie Smith.

Here is the projected Illini depth chart against Nebraska.

Quarterback

Starter: Brandon Peters

Brandon Peters will get the nod once again and rightfully so. This kid is one of the most talented quarterbacks we have had come through the program in years.

Peters is coming off a game against Eastern Michigan where he threw for 297 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. He had a 59.5-percent completion rate and was sacked six times. I like the yardage and touchdowns, but the rest has me skeptical. We need to protect this man because he is our only hope of winning some games and making a bowl this season.

Backup: Matt Robinson

The backup to Peters still remains Matt Robinson and will be for the rest of the season. We are about to be four games into the year, which means freshman Isaiah Williams will be taking a redshirt. That would leave Robinson as the best option as a backup.

Robinson has only played in one game this season and that was because we were blowing out Akron. He was 1-of-2 for 31 yards in that game. The only time I want to see this kid take a snap this season is if we are blowing out teams. Besides that, he should be riding the pine.
