Illinois Basketball: Brandon Weston looking to visit the Illini
The class of 2021 isn’t far away and the Illinois basketball team is already trying to pull in some big-time talent.
On Tuesday morning, Brandon Weston took to Twitter to announce some of his visits he will be taking this fall. He posted that he will be visiting Michigan State on September 21, Wake Forest September 27, Cincinnati October 4 and Illinois on October 12.
Weston is a 6-foot-5, 195-pound forward from Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Illinois. He isn’t rated or ranked by the recruiting sites yet, but he is starting to garner some solid recruiting attention. This kid is on the rise in the recruiting world too. He is going to start getting a lot of scholarships over the next year or so.
Morgan Park didn’t always have Weston, though. He transferred into the program this past season and will be unleashed this upcoming year. He still has two years left in the high school ranks, so look for him to end up being one of the best in the state of Illinois.
One of the biggest proving grounds for Weston, besides for the Chicago Public League, is the Nike EYBL AAU league he played in over the summer. He suited up for the Mac Irvin Fire and played well, especially considering he aged up and was playing with a bunch of older kids.
During the EYBL run, Weston averaged 12.3 points per game. He shot 46.5-percent from the field and 32.4-percent from three-point range. He was also 82.3-percent from the free throw line. Weston was able to pull down 3.5 rebounds per game as well.
Weston has such a silky game that seems to just come naturally. Illinois could use this kid in the No. 2 or No. 3 roles on the team. He would be sensational from day one. This kid has the ability to put massive points on the board in multiple ways too.
Laying the groundwork for a great program starts early. Developing a solid relationship with a player like Weston is important. Hopefully, this coaching staff can bring in Weston and show him that Champaign is the place to be.
