The Illinois basketball team needs to reload for the class of 2020 or we could be left out to dry.

There are so many recruits who would be perfect fits for this program. We have also made the top list for many players.

Here are the top six options for the Illini recruiting class of 2020.

1. Jaylin Williams

  • Size – 6-foot-9, 230-pounds
  • Location – Northside High School, Fort Smith, Arkansas

National Ranking

  • 247Sports – #74 overall, #12 center, #3 Arkansas
  • Rivals – #66 overall, #10 center

Official Visits

  • Oklahoma State – June 8

Recruiting Take

Jaylin Williams has a dangerous combination of size and coordination. He has great athletic ability and can run the court well. He cut his list down to just seven teams vying for his commitment, and each one of those programs would be lucky to have this kid.

The seven teams who are still fighting to land this kid include Oklahoma State, Auburn, UConn, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Iowa State and Illinois.

The recruiting sites have either Oklahoma State or Arkansas in the lead for Williams. He already visited the Cowboys back on June 8. I will be curious to see who gets his other official visits. It doesn’t look like any decision will be made soon. He also just cut his list down on September 4. If I had to guess, I would say Arkansas is leading here with Oklahoma State a close second. I would bet Auburn, Arkansas, Iowa State and Illinois get his final four visits.

Fit

Having Williams come in would be a seamless transition from Kofi Cockburn. I expect Cockburn to only be with the Illini for a maximum of two seasons. That would free up the center spot during Williams’ sophomore season. He would slide right into that role nicely.
