There aren’t a lot of wide receivers on the list of greatest Illini players of all time. The few who do don the list are some of the best overall players to come through the program. Brandon Lloyd deserves to be on this list and some could argue he needs to be higher.

Lloyd made his mark on the Illinois program in the four years he was with the team. He is currently No. 5 all-time in career receptions with 160 catches. His 2001 and 2002 seasons both saw 65 catches, which both rank No. 8 all time in single-season receptions.

Lloyd then checks in at No. 2 in career touchdown catches with 21 touchdowns, only four behind David Williams. He is tied with Williams at No. 1 on the single-season touchdown receptions list with 10 touchdowns in 2001. He is also No. 3 on the list with nine touchdowns in 2002.

When it comes to receiving yardage, Lloyd once again pops up. He had 2,583 yards receiving with the Illini and that ranks No. 2 all time in career receiving yardage. His 2001 season ranks No. 5 in single-season receiving yardage with 1,062 yards, and his 2002 season is No. 8 with 1,010 yards.

Lloyd was the main wide receiver in two big bowls for the Illini. They won the MicronPC.com Bowl in 1999 and then made it to the 2002 Sugar Bowl. His ability to catch the ball was legendary. That is why he belongs on this list.
