Illinois Basketball: Former Illini makes it to TBT championship game
The Basketball Tournament is entering their championship game but not without a little Illinois basketball flair to it.
Carmen’s Crew, a team made up of mostly of former Ohio State players, will go up against the Golden Eagles, which is a team made up of mostly former Marquette players. These two teams will face off on Tuesday night at 8 pm CT on ESPN to see who takes home the 2-million dollar winner-take-all prize.
The Basketball Tournament Twitter page posted about the championship game predictions that some of ESPN’s basketball analysts have put out. Spoiler alert, all but one analyst picked Carmen’s Crew to take home the title and the 2-million dollars. But with the post came a picture. In that picture, there was a familiar face that didn’t play for Ohio State but rather against the Buckeyes.
I had to do some research. Admittedly, I haven’t watched much of The Basketball Tournament, but I needed to verify that this was the person that it looked like in the picture. I searched their website and found the Carmen’s Crew roster. I scrolled down a few times and sure enough, there is the name that I was expecting to see; Demetri McCamey.
McCamey was a great player for the Illinois Fighting Illini in college. He had a career average of 12.4 points, 5.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game with the Orange and Blue. After college, McCamey dabbled in basketball overseas and some in the G-League. It looks like he is still staying in the game with Carmen’s Crew in The Basketball Tournament.
I always wanted former Illinois players to put a team together for The Basketball Tournament. I think we could put up a good fight. McCamey would have been in there. I also see where Michael Finke played for the Illinois BC team. One day, in the future, I would love to see an Illinois alumni team put together. We have the talent to make that happen.
