Third-String: Coran Taylor

The quarterback depth is 2020 is going to be the best I have seen the Illini have in my lifetime. I have the third-string quarterback being Coran Taylor. He would be a great option for the Orange and Blue that far down the depth chart.

Taylor was a three-star dual-threat quarterback coming out of Peoria High School in Peoria, Illinois. He was ranked as the No. 870 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 24 dual-threat quarterback in the nation. He was also the No. 13 player in the state of Illinois.

When Illinois landed Taylor, I was pumped. This kid was so talented and performed well at the high school level. If he would have come into the program a few years earlier, I think he would have been starting for the Illini. But he had to redshirt last season and the Illini have added more depth to the team.

Taylor has a good skillset for offensive coordinator Rod Smith’s style of play. His legs are his main driver on offense. He needs to hone his arm a little bit, but he still has a cannon. I could see situations where Illinois is winning by a lot and they bring in Taylor. I want to see the kid on the field in these situations in 2020.
