ANN ARBOR, MI – SEPTEMBER 22: Michigan Wolverines quarterback Brandon Peters (18) warms up prior to the Michigan Wolverines versus Nebraska Cornhuskers game on Saturday September 22, 2018 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, MI. (Photo by Steven King/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) /

Starter: Brandon Peters

I think the starter for the next two years is going to be Brandon Peters. He is the biggest graduate transfer Illinois has ever landed in the history of their program.

Peters was a four-star pro-style quarterback coming out of Avon High School in Avon, Indiana. He was ranked as the No. 61 player in the class of 2016 and the No. 6 pro-style quarterback in the nation. He was also the No. 6 player in the state of Indiana.

In year one with Michigan, Peters redshirted. He then played in six games his redshirt freshman campaign and five games during his redshirt sophomore season. He finished his Michigan career throwing for 680 yards, 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

Peters obviously has talent. They don’t rank a kid that high in the recruiting rankings without him having something special about his game. The Michigan quarterback situation hasn’t been good in a while, so I assume that is why Peters never got off the ground there.

Despite Peters being a contrast to what offensive coordinator Rod Smith likes to do, I think this marriage will work. I am most excited about the Illini wide receivers and tight ends the next two years. Illinois hasn’t had a quarterback who could complete passes in a long time. Peters will be that man. Watch for Ricky Smalling to have his best year with the Orange and Blue.
