The Illinois football team added a big piece to the puzzle over the weekend in the form of CJ Dixon.

Dixon is a big-time quarterback from the state of Georgia who will help this program win a lot of games in the near future. The main thing I like about Dixon’s game is his touch. He has the ability as a quarterback to throw the deep ball, but he can also throw the short passes with finesse. That is important in the college game.

Illinois is getting a great player in Dixon. But they weren’t the only program after this kid. He had so many impressive offers which included Alabama, Georgia and Florida. But he picked Illinois and is now going to be a superstar for the Orange and Blue.

It has been a long time since I could say this, but Illinois has great depth at the quarterback position. Honestly, during my lifetime which started in 1990, the quarterback depth has never been near this good. We have had a few great starters, but the backups were a huge drop-off. That isn’t the case anymore. But what will the depth chart look like in 2020?
