Let’s just say the class of 2020 has slowed down a little bit for the Illinois football program.
That might be an understatement as a few big-time recruits who the Illini had a shot at decided to go elsewhere. The most recent departure for the Orange and Blue recruiting targets is Jalen St. John. He is a solid offensive lineman from St. Louis who has decided to play football for Missouri. I wish him nothing but the best.
With St. John off the board, what is left for the Illini when it comes to the offensive line? Well, I am slightly worried about what is coming down the road for the offensive line. Illinois is going to have six offensive linemen graduate within the next two seasons. That is going to leave a massive hole for the coaching staff to fill.
The Illini do have Evan Kirts coming in from the class of 2019. He will be a solid addition. But that is it for that class and the one offensive lineman we had committed for 2020, Marcus Harper, de-committed and went to Oregon. That still stings a little. But there are still some offensive line recruits out there for the Illini to snag.
