While the Illinois football team made the top five for Quadre Nicholson on Sunday, they also made the top list for a player who could help with the defense.

The addition of Marquez Beason, among others, in the class of 2019 is going to help the Illini defensive secondary greatly. But we are going to need to build on that recruiting momentum with some depth. This has been an issue with the program. Getting someone like MiQuan Grace would help solve that problem.

Grace is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound cornerback from Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 1918 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 167 cornerback in the nation. He is also the No. 70 player in the state of Ohio as well.

For being a recruit who is hovering around the top 2000 in the class of 2020, Grace has a lot of recruiting attention. He has offers from teams like Purdue, Maryland and Louisville. A decision is coming soon for Grace, though. He has now cut his list down to just five programs vying for his commitment. Those five teams include Rutgers, Purdue, Kentucky, Toledo and Illinois.

247Sports seems to think Grace will eventually land with Kentucky, but I think this recruitment is wide open as of right now. The Writing Illini had a chance to ask Grace why Illinois made the cut? What makes Illinois an attractive destination?

“The coaching staff stood out to me a whole lot,” said Grace, “They made me feel if I choose there, I know I would be in good hands.”

Illinois has a family feel dynamic to their program. You can fault Lovie Smith sometimes for his coaching style etc., but you can’t say anything bad about the way he runs the program and how he treats his players. He develops young players into men. He shows his recruits and players how to do things the right way.

Grace is going to start moving quickly with his recruitment. He has already visited most of the schools he has on his list, so his only official visit will be to Rutgers. A decision is coming, though. He told the Writing Illini that he will make a commitment on July 4.

Next. Quadre Nicholson keeps Illini in top 5. dark

Hopefully, Illinois can add to their defense this week. Grace would be a great addition to help provide depth to the Illini secondary.
