The Illinois basketball team has been busy lately with handing out scholarships to players who could help this team in the future.
The No. 1 guard role on the team is going to suffer after this upcoming season. We are going to lose Ayo Dosunmu to the NBA Draft and Andres Feliz to graduation. Illinois is going to have to find some suitable replacements who can make an immediate impact on the team. That is why they offered Shakeel Moore a scholarship.
Moore is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound point guard from Piedmont High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 166 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 33 point guard in the nation. He is also the No. 7 player in the state of North Carolina as well.
On Thursday, Moore took to Twitter to announce that he had received an offer from the Illini. This wasn’t his first offer, though. Moore has some solid recruiting attention right now. Some of the other big names to come in with an offer include the likes of Wichita State, Virginia Tech and Mississippi State.

Moore suited up for Team CP3 during the Nike EYBL AAU season. While the team did struggle, Moore finished with some solid numbers. He played nine games for Team CP3 and averaged 15.2 points, 4.2 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game.
The number of points Moore put up doesn’t wow me, but his efficiency on the court does. He shot 55.2-percent from the field while hitting his three-pointers at a clip of 40-percent. Granted, he didn’t take too many three-pointers only going 6-of-15. But he clearly isn’t just jacking up shots, which is rare in AAU.

Illinois is going to have solid wings and good big men moving forward. We don’t need a No. 1 guard who shoots a lot from the outside. We are going to need a good ball distributor and a hardnosed defensive specialist. That is what Moore could bring this team. I would love this addition to the roster.
