CHAMPAIGN, IL – NOVEMBER 30: Quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase /

This ranking isn’t about the best Illinois football quarterback to step foot on the field of Memorial Stadium.

I put together the top five rated quarterbacks, since the full recruiting ranking era began, that the Illini have had on their team. It is hard to tell exactly when the full recruiting rankings started. Prior to roughly 2003, the recruiting rankings only went up to the top 100 players.

So, this list does have some limitations to it. I couldn’t put anyone past 2003 because there weren’t full recruiting rankings. With that being said, when Jeff George was coming out of high school, he was ranked as the No. 1 player in the country. He eventually transferred to Illinois.

I can’t find anything on where Tony Eason was ranked or Kurt Kittner for that matter. Both of whom were highly touted coming out of the high school ranks and did well while with the Illini. So, I stuck with the verifiable recruiting ranks.

This list has some serious talent on it. These players have actually played snaps for the Orange and Blue as well. Surprisingly, two of these quarterbacks were recruited by the current regime.

Here are the top five highest-rated Illini quarterbacks since the full recruiting rankings era began.
