Backup – Coran Taylor (3-Star, 6-foot-3, 195-pounds)

The fourth-string quarterback who will eventually turn into the third-string quarterback is most likely to be Coran Taylor. He is a local kid, from Peoria, who has great legs and should push for a bigger role on the team this season.

Taylor came into the Illinois program from the class of 2018. He was a 6-foot-3, 195-pound dual-threat quarterback from Peoria High School in Peoria, Illinois. He was rated as a three-star recruit who was the No. 870 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 24 dual-threat quarterback in the nation. He was also the No. 13 player in the state of Illinois as well.

Illinois fans didn’t get to see Taylor last season. The Illini were able to redshirt this young athletic quarterback. That was the smart move for him and the program. He had a chance to ride the pine and learn the playbook for a year. I think this will help him tremendously with the upcoming season and his career at Illinois.

Don’t be surprised if Taylor makes some noise at the quarterback position this year. I have him down on the depth chart but mostly because we haven’t seen him suit up yet. I think he is a dark horse to move up the depth chart and become a primary backup to Peters this season. That scenario would not shock me one bit.
