The Illinois football team has made another top list for a big-time recruit who could help the team in the future.

Developing the quarterback position has been a bugaboo for the Lovie Smith era. Finding the right player to put behind center hasn’t come easy. I believe the Illini have found a great one in Isaiah Williams, though. He should make an impact this season. But depth has been an issue as well. Illinois needs to find another great quarterback for the class of 2020. I think Gregory Spann would be a great option.

Spann is a 6-foot-4, 194-pound dual-threat quarterback from Lakewood High School in Saint Petersburg, Florida. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 900 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 30 dual-threat quarterback in the nation. He is also the No. 123 player in the state of Florida as well.

The decision on where he wants to play football is coming soon for Spann. On Thursday morning, Spann decided to cut his list down to just six programs he will be choosing from. The six teams to make his top list include Louisville, Duke, Ole Miss, UFC, Florida State and Illinois. This is a tough list.

Spann is going to take his official visits to five of these six programs, but I can’t wait until he sees what Williams can do in the Rod Smith offense. The Illini offense is going to be so dynamic when Williams steps on the field. He is going to be able to break big runs which will open up the passing game for big-time touchdown passes. That is what I envision for this offense.

You can even look at this past season. Illinois brought in AJ Bush who is quick but isn’t lightning fast. He still managed to rush for 733 yards and eight touchdowns for the Illini. You get someone quicker like Williams and Spann in there, this Illinois offense is going to be extremely dangerous.

This type of offense should land solid dual-threat quarterbacks like Spann. He is going to see what Smith’s offense can do with talented, quick, quarterbacks. That should be one of the biggest recruiting pitches.

Next. 3 ways Quinton McCoy will help the Illini. dark

Spann is interested in the Illini. We have made his top six. The Illinois offense fits his game well. This seems like a match made in football heaven.
