It looks like there is a possibility that the Illinois football team is in the mix for a Florida defensive tackle.

Defensive line coach Austin Clark has done some amazing work recruiting talented defensive linemen. His ability to get great players interested in our program is something to marvel at. Coach Clark now has Quinton McCoy looking at the Orange and Blue.

McCoy is a 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive tackle from Bloomingdale High School in Valrico, Florida. He isn’t rated or ranked by 247Sports, but he does have some solid scholarship offers from teams around the country.

In addition to the offer from the Illini, McCoy also has offers from teams like USF, Louisville and Iowa State. The fact he isn’t ranked or rated is a little confusing, but this kid clearly has talent and I want him for the Illini.

On Thursday, McCoy released his visit plans and when he is going to make a commitment. He is heading to Louisville on Friday. He will then visit Kentucky on Saturday. Sometime this weekend, I assume on Sunday, McCoy will then head to Champaign and visit the Illini. I am hoping it is on Sunday so that we can have the last word.

The process looks to be coming to an end for McCoy as well. He is putting together these visits this weekend and then plans to make a commitment on Tuesday, according to his Twitter account. That means the teams who are wooing him this weekend are likely the teams he will be choosing from. That is good news for the Orange and Blue.

I would love to see McCoy suit up for the Illini. We are losing three big-time defensive tackles after this season, so snagging him is crucial for depth moving forward. He is a talented big man who can stop the run. That is what I want in the middle of my defense.

Hopefully, the Illini can make a good impression on McCoy this weekend. We need more talent in the middle of the defense, and he fits the bill.
