If you are an Illinois basketball fan you are probably excited about the upcoming campaign and the potential this team has to do some great things.

It has been a long time since Illini fans have had something to root for come March. I remember when we complained about always being on the bubble and how stressful it was. I would kill for that now as we aren’t even in consideration for the NIT tournament let alone the NCAA tournament.

But the upcoming rendition of the Illinois basketball team should have a roster that can compete for the Big Ten title and get back to the postseason. They are loaded with talent and that should translate into victories on the court. Is this the best team we have seen the Illini put on the court in the last two coaching regimes?

The John Groce era started with a bang but ended with a fizzle. But the best team he had during his tenure with the program was the 2012-13 squad that made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament. That is actually the last team to go dancing. So, how does this upcoming squad compare to that 2012-13 team?

Here is the Illini starting lineup compared to the 2012-13 team.
