Surprisingly, the Illinois football team wasn’t done with the class of 2019.

It is hard to add a player to a class with only a few months left until the season starts. I thought the Illini were done besides for a few graduate transfers who could plug up a couple of holes. But, on Friday, Illinois added Dalevon Campbell to the class of 2019.

Campbell isn’t rated or ranked by 247Sports but his size is what stands out to me. He is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receiver from Fort Bend Marshall High School in Missouri City, Texas. This kid didn’t have the recruiting attention that many players have, but he has the framework to help this program in the near future.

I love this addition by the Illini. At this point, the stars don’t matter. I like what Campbell brings to the table with his size. Illinois needed someone big on the outside. His 6-foot-4,200-pound size is going to be crucial for the Illini.

Illinois is going to have a pretty big wide receiver corps this upcoming season as well. Along with the addition of Campbell, the Illini also have Edwin Carter coming back who is 6-foot-3 and Justice Williams playing some snaps who is also 6-foot-3. Those are some towers who should be able to help whoever the Illini quarterback ends up being.

Campbell also brings more depth to this Illini wide receiver corps as well. Heading into this season, there aren’t a ton of pass catchers I trust. I like what Ricky Smalling brings. I am excited to see what incoming transfer Trevon Sydney can do for the Illini. Carter is going to be healthy. But, after this season, we are losing three wide receivers and after 2020 we are losing another four pass catchers. We needed another wide receiver, and that is what we got with Campbell.

Next. Brandon Peters would be an interesting option for the Illini. dark

This is a great late pickup by the Illini. Coach Andrew Hayes-Stoker snagged a solid player here. I like his size and the fact he brings depth to the team. I can’t wait to see what Campbell can do for the Illini.
