That south produces some solid college football talent, and that is where the Illinois football team went with their next scholarship offer.
Illinois needs more wide receiver help. This hasn’t been a secret for the past decade. There have been a few solid pass catchers but they either went down with injuries every season or they didn’t have a quarterback to throw them the ball. Well, the Illini have a solid quarterback coming in and now they need some good hands on the outside. That is where Ger-Cari Caldwell comes into play.
Caldwell is a 6-foot-4, 192-pound wide receiver from Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He isn’t rated or ranked by the recruiting sites, but he is one of those recruits who have a ton of potential and is flying under the radar.
There isn’t a ton of information on Caldwell. The recruiting sites haven’t picked up on him and the only information I can pull is his size and some play-by-play from past football games on Twitter. I like what I see by just looking at his size, though. A 6-foot-4, 192-pound frame is always good at wide receiver.
After a great conversation with @Coach_BMcClain I am truly blessed to say that I have received my first offer from The University of Illinois! #HailToTheOrange pic.twitter.com/GgmwEV4oN3

I like some of the attributes that Caldwell brings to the table. He is a basketball player who plays football. That means he has good speed because of the cardio that is put into the game of basketball. He has to be able to run. Caldwell also has nice bounce too. He can go up and get the ball because, in basketball, you have to play at the rim. Those skills translate over to the football field.
It is fascinating to see Illinois go after these underrated recruits. There has been some attention from division one programs towards Caldwell, but Illinois is the first to pull the figurative trigger. I wouldn’t mind seeing this kid suit up for the Orange and Blue.
