There are a handful of top-tier recruits that the Illinois basketball team has a chance at for 2020.
What will this Illini team even look like when the class of 2020 enters their freshman season? I think we are guaranteed to lose Ayo Dosunmu. He is going to play this upcoming season and then depart for the NBA Draft. His departure will leave a big hole in the Illinois guard rotation.
Will Trent Frazier last past his junior year? That is a question that I think will be a yes, but we will see considering he is the most prolific scorer on the team right now. The combination of him and Ayo in the backcourt should do wonders this upcoming season. But that duo won’t last past 2019-2020.
On top of this great duo for Illinois breaking up after the upcoming campaign, Illinois also has to think about the loss of backup guard, Andres Feliz. He will be a senior in 2019-2020, which means he will also be gone after the upcoming season. Illinois’ guard situation isn’t looking great. But we have a chance to replenish the talent on the team with a few players. One of those players is in-state guard, Adam Miller.
Miller is a 6-foot-3, 170-pound point guard from Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Illinois. He is rated as a four-star recruit – should be five-star – who is the No. 24 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 4 point guard in the nation. He is also the best player in the state of Illinois as well.
The recruitment of Miller has been chronicled from Manuel High School in Peoria to Morgan Park in Chicago and during the summers with the Mac Irvin Fire. This has transformed him from a solid basketball player to one of the most wanted recruits for the class of 2020.
Scott Burgess of Prep Hoops Illinois had a chance to interview Miller again to see where everything stood with his game and his recruitment. It is always good to get an update on his game and what teams are making him a priority.
In the interview with Burgess, Miller mentions how he is just working on his game overall right now. He was happy with how he played during the high school regular season despite his team falling short. He really liked how he had a chance to put his scoring on display as well.
Miller then got to his recruiting update. Teams continue to come in with offers for the kid. Some of the most recent offers were from Missouri, Alabama and Arkansas. But he then goes on to say there are three schools that are prioritizing him right now. Those three programs are Wake Forest, Louisville and Illinois. He liked Wake Forest’s head coach Danny Manning and the fact he has played in the NBA. Louisville wants to make him into a true guard and develop him as a player. And Illinois is his home state team and his former teammate, Ayo, goes there as well.
It is encouraging that Illinois is still right in the mix for Miller. This kid has all the talent in the world and would be a nice transition from the Ayo era. I believe this upcoming season is going to be a success for the Illini, and Miller could continue that winning into the future. This is a big-time recruit for the Orange and Blue.
