The Illinois football team was busy this weekend on the recruiting trail.
One of their latest offers was on Friday. Caleb Medford announced on Twitter that he had received a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois. This offer comes in the middle of a myriad of other programs also offering the up-and-coming recruit.
Medford is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound wide receiver from Henderson High School in Henderson, Texas. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 512 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 94 wide receiver in the nation. He is also the No. 71 player in the state of Texas as well.
Like I mentioned earlier, there is a wide range of programs eyeing Medford. This kid is a wanted recruit and the teams who are coming after him are big-time programs. Besides for the Illini, he has teams like Arkansas, Purdue and Texas Tech looking at him, among others.

The first thing about Medford that stands out to me is his size. I love the fact he is 6-foot-3. That would give the Illini a nice big target on the outside for someone line MJ Rivers or Isaiah Williams to throw to down the road. Illinois is missing that right now.
Medford seems like he has nice speed as well. He can take the top off a defense, which is another thing Illinois has been missing for a while. His speed would make him a dangerous player for Rod Smith to use on the field. Coach Smith likes to use players in multiple ways, and Medford fits that bill.
We are, obviously, early in Medford’s recruitment. I think this summer and into the high school football season, things will start to heat up for him as far as visits and list cutting is concerned. I think the Illini can get in this recruitment. Andrew Hayes-Stoker seems to be his primary recruiter. He has dominated the state of Texas since joining the staff.
Hopefully, the Illini can get in on the recruitment for Medford. He would be a great addition to a team that needs a wide receiver like Illinois.
