The Illinois basketball team extended another scholarship offer on Monday afternoon.

Jayden Stone announced on Twitter that he had received an offer from the University of Illinois. Stone is a big-time player who continues to pile up scholarships. Baylor also offered him on Monday as well.

Stone is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound shooting guard from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Anniston, Alabama. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 42 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 12 shooting guard in the nation. He is also the No. 1 player in the state of Alabama as well.

Like previously mentioned, Stone has a myriad of teams vying for his commitment. In addition to the recent Illinois and Baylor offers, teams like Auburn, Kansas State and Georgetown have offered him as well, among others. This will be an interesting recruitment to watch play out because of what he brings to the table.

I like what Stone can do on the floor. The best part of his game is his shot. He can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. He has a great, quick, release as well. That makes him extremely dangerous. I love his bounce. He can run the court and get to the basket. The NBA player he reminds me of is Klay Thompson.

I would slot Stone at the No. 2 guard role for the Illini. Trent Frazier has this spot right now, but Frazier is a junior this season and would be a senior when Stone comes into the program. There is a chance Frazier is gone after this upcoming campaign if the NBA is calling, though. Even if he is not, Stone could come in and be a primary backup year one and then be the starter in 2021. That isn’t a bad idea as well.

Getting a player like Stone would help Brad Underwood’s offense tremendously. He can shoot the opposing team out of the gym. Let’s see if Illinois can get in this recruitment.
