The Illinois secondary was not good last season. I am not surprised it wasn’t good, though. We were so thin at multiple positions and young in others. It just wasn’t a good combination. This season should be different, though. The Illini have more depth now and this has enabled them to move Delano Ware around.

Coming into the Illinois football program, Ware was a 6-foot, 190-pound safety who was rated as a three-star recruit and was the No. 1630 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 155 safety in the nation. He was also the No. 192 player in the state of California as well.

As a true freshman, Ware was thrown into the starting job for eight games as a safety. Being this young and getting the starting nod is not a good thing for a defense. Although, I was impressed by the improvements Ware made throughout the season. He really started to develop nicely.

Ware has some good size to him. He is now at 200 pounds, according to his FightingIllini.com profile. It looks like Illinois has now moved Ware from safety to linebacker. I would assume he is going to be in a lot of pass coverage as a linebacker, though. He would be kind of a hybrid player. This is an interesting move.
