This is a big year for the Illinois football team and one that could set the tone for the rest of the Love Smith coaching tenure.

Winning this season is crucial and being able to do that means the Illini need to figure out who is going to be starting and which players will back up the starters. There hasn’t been a lot of depth to this program in a long time. But, it looks like that depth is starting to build.

Getting depth is huge when it comes to winning. You started to see this Illini program put some wins on the board last year. With the players that are coming in, and the experience already on the roster, I believe more wins are to come in 2019.

The new additions to the team also help free up the coaching staff as well. The coaches can now shift players around and enable some of the players, who had to change positions because of depth issues, to go back to their natural roles. That is going to be huge for the program as well.

If you look at the spring roster, you will notice there are already some players who have switched positions compared to the roster last season.

Here are five Illini payers who have switched positions this spring.
