The state of Texas has been important for the Illinois football team since Lovie Smith took the reins.

The Illini have been targeting the Lone Star State for quite some time now. One of the biggest recruiters for the Orange and Blue down in Texas has been wide receivers coach, Andrew Hayes-Stoker. He has been a wizard down there when it comes to recruiting. One of the biggest gets for the Illini from the state of Texas, since the current regime has been in place, is Marquez Beason.

Beason is entering the Illinois program from the class of 2019. He is going to come in and be an impact starting defensive back from day one. He isn’t the only Beason on the radar of the Illini program, though. His brother, actually cousin but their relationship is like that of brothers, Zeriah Beason is developing his path toward a big-time DI program.

Beason is a 6-foot, 195-pound wide receiver from Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 408 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 74 wide receiver in the nation. He is also the No. 60 player in the state of Texas as well.

There has been a lot of speculation about where Beason stands with his recruitment right now, but Adam Munsterteiger of 247Sports put all of the speculation to rest with his interview of the star wide receiver. He had a chance to pick the brain of Beason to see where he stood with his recruitment and what teams are standing out to him the most.

In the article, Beason said he is getting the official visit set up to Buffalo right now. He also talks about taking unofficial visits to Arizona and Illinois in the article as well. He will also take an official visit to Oregon State on May 10 too. The article continues on to say that Beason confirmed that Arizona, Colorado, Oregon State and Illinois are the colleges he will be focusing on.  A commitment is also planned either before the summer or during the summer.

The fact Beason is narrowing the scope of his recruitment is huge for the Illini. They are right in the mix for this top 500 player. Getting him would be huge for the program. Having Marquez on the team already is big for the program. These two Beason’s would tear up the Big Ten. I hope we get a chance to watch that happen on the field in 2020.
