3. Spencer Foley

Illinois needs someone who can come off the bench and hit some shots. They need someone who can provide a spark for the second rotation, so the team doesn’t go into a scoring drought. I think someone like Spencer Foley would be a good option.

Foley is a 6-foot-7, 190-pound forward from Chicago, Illinois. He attended McNeese State last season but had to sit out because he transferred in from Canisius College. So, while he isn’t a graduate transfer, he would still be able to play immediately.

In the two years with Canisius College, Foley was a solid player. He didn’t get a ton of time, but he was effective when he played. His final season there, he saw 13.1 minutes of action and, in that time, he averaged 5.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. What impressed me most was his shooting. He was 49.5-percent from the field and 43.6-percent from three-point range. Those are big-time numbers.

If we could grow our bench to a point where we don’t have to worry too much about a slump from the second unit, that is would be optimal. Foley would help provide a spark off the bench. He could drain a few three-pointers each game and that would help the team. I wouldn’t mind pursuing this kid.
